Tube Amp

There many guitar amps available in the market. Basically, the two main choices are solid state amp and tube amp. The focus will be on tube amp. There are two tube classifications for every tube amp. These are pre-amp tubes and power tube amps.

Pre-amp Tubes

This kind of tube amp uses smaller tubes. The number of tubes for every pre-amp tube is around 2-4. These tubes provide power to the amp’s “pre” section. The main function of the tubes is to produce distortion or boost. Consequently, this contributes to the production of a warmer tone.

Power Tube Amp

This kind of tube amp makes use of bigger tubes. The big tubes in this tube amp carry the amp’s load and are mainly used to produce the main output signal.

Basically, each kind of tube amp corresponds to certain sound. Depending on the desired music, the kind of tube amp also varies.

Going beyond the rules

Although it was mentioned that the kind of tube amp goes in accordance with the kind of music, there are some instances wherein this is not applicable. Although a certain tube amp corresponds to a music style, in music chances are the musician himself has a very different approach to his music style. This music style cannot simply be categorized under a classification. Therefore, it is also not possible to determine what kind of amp should be used.

The point is, the use of an amp is also not just limited to a kind of music. Amps can be used to play any kind of music. Music is very diverse. As much as there are classifications, these categories cannot simply encompass the music a musician is playing. There is always a variation and therefore the bounds of music are simply not clearly defined. Amps can be used to play any kind of music. Basically, it is up to the musician how he uses the equipment to produce his own sound.
